Halvaria is een taxonomische groep van protisten, bestaande uit de Alveolata en de Stramenopila (Heterokonta). De groep werd in 2010 voorgesteld door Thomas Cavalier-Smith.[1]
De verwantschap tussen Stramenopila en Alveolata werd aangetoond in de jaren 2000. Samen met de Rhizaria vormen deze groepen de SAR-clade. De indeling in chromalveolaten raakte in onbruik. Met latere fylogenetische analyses en modellering van plastide-evolutie werd duidelijk dat Halvaria een robuuste clade is.[2][3]
