Manawatu er eit distrikt i regionen Manawatu-Wanganui på Nordøya på New Zealand.

Plassering

«The Manawatu», som distriktet til vanleg vert kalla, ligg sørvest på Nordøya, nær elva som har gjeve namn til det, Manawatu. Distriktet ligg nord for Wellington og strekkjer seg frå litt nord for busetnaden Himatangi i sør, til like sør for Mangaweka i nord, og frå Rangitikei River til Tararuafjella. Grensa mot sør følgjer Manawatu-elva, og distriktet omfattar ikkje området kring byen Palmerston North eller Ashhurst. Flatevidda i distriktet er 2 624 km².

Populasjon

Folketalet i distriktet er 29 300 (estimat i juni 2008)[2]. Den største byen og setet for distriktsstyret er Feilding, som har eit innbyggjartal på 14 350.[2] Mindre byar i distriktet er Halcombe, Himatangi, Bainesse, Bunnythorpe, Waituna West, Kimbolton, Apiti, Rangiwahia, Longburn, Rongotea, Pohangina, Tangimoana, Himatangi Beach og Sanson.

Lokalstyre

Manawatu District vart danna ved samanslåing av dei tidlegare lokalstyrte områda (counties) Manawatu, Oroua, Kiwitea, Pohangina og ein del av Kairanga.

Distriktet er organisert i tre område (wards) som er:

  • Feilding
  • Kairanga
  • Kiwitea-Pohangina
