Mastodons (Greek: μαστός "breast" an ὀδούς, "tuith") are ony species o extinct proboscideans in the genus Mammut (faimily Mammutidae), distantly relatit tae elephants, that inhabitit North an Central Americae in the late Miocene or late Pliocene ap tae thair extinction at the end o the Pleistocene 10,000 tae 11,000 yeir back.[1]
