History
In October 2004 , Mind Assault made their first public appearance. The foondin members of the band were: Jacques Fourie (ex- Deaf Division); Francois Pretorius (ex- Deaf Division); Patrick Davidson; an Donovan Tose (ex- Fudge). At the end o 2006 Andries Smit (ex- Decay of Angels) completit the line-up an haes remained wi the baund since.
Mind Assault haed recordit an released a demo EP in 2005 cawed Social Engineering, played a number o lairger “alternative” concerts/festivals, an initiatit a fresh concept o organizin lairge “pairty buses” tae select performances, which in itself became an event that attractit a lot o additional fans.
Bi early 2006 , Mind Assault haed an aa played their first big cross-genre muisic festival tae vera receptive audiences, an completed their first naitional tour (DESTRUCTOUR'06) in pairtnership wi Sooth Africae's maist legendary metal act, SacriFist (begun in 1993!). The success o the tour haed ensured the baunds progress on a naitional level. Throughoot that year, the baund continued the ravagin o their hame province, an ayont, gatherin material for the planned hame DVD release which wis tae follae.
2007 saw the release o Mind Assault's feature length DVD, “F*k Voort En Suip Baie” (the first o its kynd in Sooth Africae). They concludit the year wi headlinin slots at festivals such as “METAL4AFRICA Archived 2011-01-29 at the Wayback Machine”, “EMPYREAN FEST”, an “WHIPLASH”.
2008 proved tae be even mair excitin for Mind Assault, but haes an aa been the maist challengin in their careeer. In Februar, Mind Assault released their debut full length album Stigma at “METAL4AFRICA Summerfest”, smashin attendance records in the region for an aw-African, aw-metal event. 2008 includit a headlinin slot at “RAMFEST” , which is bi far the home provinces lairgest annual cross-genre muisic festival. an aa, they toured ayont the Sooth African border intae Namibie, acquirin whole new legions o fans. Bi half way through 2008, Mind Assault haed awready been buikt tae play alangside internaitional visitors: DevilDriver (USA), Carcass (UK), an Nile (USA) for later that year, as well as tae headline yet anither “METAL4AFRICA Archived 2011-01-29 at the Wayback Machine” an “WHIPLASH”. Incidentally, Mind Assault are the ae baund iver tae hae been invitit tae play “WHIPLASH” five years in a row![2]. Consequently, neither Nile nor Devil Driver reached African shores.
The baund an aa initiatit anither roond o the kintra wi auld friends, SacriFist for DESTRUCTOUR '08.[3], but settled doun towards the end o that year in licht o economic doun-turn. In 2009 they maintained a slowed pace unner the public eye, but continued wirk on new material an wirkt on deliverin some o the maist entertainin performances seen in African metal.
Muisical Style an Direction
The band's muisic combines brutality wi melody tae create a pouerful mixture. Guttural vocals is a mix o Inglish an Afrikaans (ane o the native leids in Sooth Africae). They wur the first baund tae uise Afrikaans on a regular basis in extreme metal.[4]
