NGC 490, Yeni Genel Katalog'da yer alan bir galaksidir. Gökyüzünde Balıklar takımyıldızı yönünde bulunur. S tipi bir sarmal galaksidir. İngiliz astronom William Parsons tarafından 1850 yılında 182,88 cm (72 inç) çaplı aynalı tip bir teleskopla keşfedilmiştir.[4]
