Ìtàn

Orúkọ yìí fig, tí wọ́n ṣe àkọsílẹ̀ rẹ̀ ní èdè Gẹ̀ẹ́sì ní sẹ́ńtúrì kẹtàlá (13th century), jẹ yọ láti èdè Faransé ìgbaanì tó jẹ́ figue.[5] Èdè Ítálì náà ní fico, tó jẹ yọ látara Latin ficus. Orúkọ caprifig, Ficus caprificus Risso, náà jẹ yọ láti inú èdè Latin capro (goat) àti Gẹ̀ẹ́sì fig.[6]

Bí o ti rí

Ficus carica jẹ́ igi gynodioecious, èyí tó jẹ́ igi tó fẹ́, tí ò sì ga púpọ̀, tó sì máa ń ga tó ìwọ̀n méje sí mẹ́wàá (7–10 m (23–33 ft)) ní gíga, pẹ̀lú èpo funfun. Ewé rẹ̀ tó 12–25 cm (4 12–10 in) ní gígùn, àti 10–18 cm (4–7 in) ní fífẹ̀, ó sì máa ń láwẹ́ lóríṣiríṣi.

Èso fig máa ń hù ní wọ̀ǹba, wọ́n sì ń pè é ní syconium, ètí tó ní òdòdó tó ní ọ̀pọ̀lọpọ̀ ìlà lára. Àwọn òdòdó kékeré rẹ̀ jọ kọ́ọ̀pù. Èso rẹ̀ máa ń ní kóró kan ṣoṣo, ní àárín rẹ̀.Ó ṣí sílẹ̀ ní àárín, kóró inú rẹ̀ sì tóbi. At maturity, these 'seeds' (actually single-seeded fruits) line the inside of each fig.[7]
