Allosauridae adalah sebuah famili dinosaurus theropoda allosauroid karnivor bipedal berukuran sedang hingga besar dari Jura Akhir.[1] Allosauridae merupakan kelompok taksonomis yang cukup tua, pertama kali dinamai oleh paleontolog Amerika Othniel Charles Marsh pada 1878.[2]

Taksonomi

Pada 2019, Rauhut dan Pol mendekripsikan Asfaltovenator vialidadi, yaitu sejenis allosauroid basal yang memiliki ciri primitif dan turunan yang hadir pada Tetanurae. Analisis filogenetika mereka menemukan bahwa Megalosauroidea tradisional mewakili sebuah tingkat basal carnosauria, yang parafiletik terhadap Allosauroidea. Mereka juga menyatakan bahwa penempatan taksonomis pasti dari Saurophaganax dalam Allosauroidea tidak stabil, menemukan bahwa genus tersebut merupakan sebuah takson saudara dari Metriacanthosauridae atau Allosauria, atau bahkan sebagai sejenis carcharodontosauria terbasal.[3]

Carnosauria

Pada 2024, penelitian ulang spesimen-spesimen yang terkait dengan Saurophaganax menyarankan bahwa itu merupakan sebuah khimaira yang terdiri dari beberapa genera dinosaurus, karena beberapa spesimen kemungkinan besar milik seekor sauropoda diplodocid, sementara beberapa spesimen allosaurid lainnya milik sebuah spesies Allosaurus baru, yang dinamai Allosaurus anax.[4]
