Dan Bălan (lahir 6 Februari 1979) adalah seorang musisi, penyanyi, penulis lagu, dan produser rekaman asal Moldova. Ia merupakan pendiri grup Eurodance Moldova O-Zone, dan menulis singel hit internasional mereka "Dragostea din tei", yang menduduki puncak tangga lagu di 32 negara dan terjual sebanyak 12 juta kopi di seluruh dunia.[1]
Kehidupan awal
Dan Bălan lahir pada 6 Februari 1979 di Chișinău, dari pasangan Mihai Balan, seorang diplomat,[2] dan Ludmila Balan, seorang pembawa acara televisi.[3] Ia memiliki seorang saudari, pembawa acara televisi Sanda Bălan (lahir 1984).[2][4] Kakek dari pihak ibunya, Boris Vasiliev, dideportasi ke Siberia saat masih anak-anak.[5][6][7]
Ia menerima instrumen pertamanya, sebuah akordeon bekas, sebagai hadiah pada usia 11 tahun dan mulai menekuni musik. Bălan bersekolah di sekolah musik, tetapi orang tuanya mendorongnya untuk melanjutkan ke universitas guna mempelajari hukum. Setelah mengikuti keinginan mereka untuk sementara waktu, ia akhirnya meninggalkan sekolah hukum untuk bermain bersama band pertamanya, Inferialis, sebuah band gothic doom metal.[8]
