Garangan (bahasa Inggris: mongoose) adalah kelompok hewan yang berada dalam famili Herpestidae. Keluarga ini terdiri atas untuk 33 spesies mamalia karnivor kecil dari selatan Eurasia dan tanah besar Afrika.

Makanan

Garangan biasanya memakan serangga, ketam, cacing tanah, biawak, ular, ayam, dan hewan pengerat. Namun, mereka juga makan telur dan bangkai.

Garangan jawa dan yang lain sering digunakan untuk melawan dan membunuh ular berbisa, termasuk ular sendok. Garangan dapat melakukan ini karena kelincahan dan kecerdikannya, dan bulunya tebal. Namun ia biasanya menghindari dan tidak begitu tertarik dengan dagingnya.[2]
