Manyung

Ikan manyung adalah ikan laut yang biasa ditangkap dan diolah sebagai ikan asin khas dari Pangandaran yang disebut jambal roti. Ikan ini adalah anggota bangsa ikan berkumis (Siluriformes), famili Ariidae.[1]

Terdapat sembilan jenis Ariidae yang disebut sebagai manyung[2] (nama diberikan dengan revisinya menurut Marceniuk & Menesez 2007), yaitu

Namun, yang populer sebagai penghasil ikan asin adalah N. thalassinus.

Pemanfaatan manyung cukup luas, khususnya di kawasan Pantai Utara Jawa. Selain dagingnya sebagai ikan asin, seperti disebutan sebelumnya, kepala ikan manyung digulai, dimangut, atau diasap, menjadi makanan khas pantai utara Jawa (Pantura).[4] Kantung udara ikan ini juga diperdagangkan dan dikonsumsi.[5] Telur manyung dapat dipepes. Kajian pengolahannya terus dilakukan. Pembuatan surimi dari manyung juga telah dilakukan.[6]
