Acropora millepora, auch als Kleinpolypige Steinkoralle bekannt, ist eine Steinkorallen-Art aus der Familie der Acroporidae. Sie kommt im tropischen Indopazifik vor.[1] Wie andere Acropora bildet die Kleinpolypige Steinkoralle ein massives Kalkskelett aus und spielt als riffbildende Art eine wichtige Rolle für Habitatbildung und Küstenschutz. Sie bietet kleinen Fischen und Wirbellosen Schutz und Lebensraum. In der Forschung wird A. millepora häufig zur Untersuchung von Korallenbleiche, der Stabilität der Symbiose mit Zooxanthellen sowie der genetischen Anpassung an Temperatur‑ und Umweltstress genutzt.[2][3]
Äußere Merkmale
Acropora millepora bilden leicht verzweigte Kolonien mit meist kräftigen, relativ kurzen Ästen, die dicht stehen und eine buschige Struktur erzeugen. Die Koralliten sind klein und regelmäßig über die Astoberfläche verteilt. Je nach Standort und Symbionten zeigen die Kolonien unterschiedliche Farbmuster, etwa bräunliche, grünliche oder rötliche Töne, häufig mit helleren Spitzen.[4]
Verbreitung und Lebensraum
Die Art ist im Indopazifik verbreitet und besiedelt dort vor allem flache bis mitteltiefe Riffbereiche mit viel Wasserbewegung und hoher Lichtintensität.
Bedrohungen
Wie andere Korallen ist Acropora millepora durch steigende Meerestemperaturen, Versauerung der Ozeane und Verschmutzung gefährdet.
