Taxonomie

Die Gattung Akrosida wurde durch Paul A. Fryxell und Javier Fuertes in A reappraisal of the Abutilothamnus complex. I. Two new genera, Sidasodes and Akrosida, and two new species. in Brittonia, Volume 44, 1992, S. 442 mit nur einer Art aufgestellt.[2] Die Gattung Akrosida war also monotypisch.[3] Der Gattungsname Akrosida setzt sich aus dem altgriechischen Wort akros άκρο für „Spitze“ im Sinne von „oberes Ende“ und dem Gattungsnamen Sida, dem die Typusart ähnlich sieht. 2007 wurde durch Paul A. Fryxell und T. G. Clase in Akrosida floribunda (Malvaceae), a new arborescent mallow from the Dominican Republic. in Brittonia, Volume 59, S. 385–388 eine zweite Art beschrieben.[4]
