Calappa ist eine Gattung der Krabben mit 41 Arten.[1] Sie kommen von der Gezeitenzone bis zum Kontinentalhang in Tiefen bis 1246 m und sind, außer im gemäßigten Süden Afrikas und den Polarmeeren, weltweit verbreitet.[2]
Merkmale
Der Carapax von Calappa wird bis zu 10,4 cm lang. Die hintere Seitenregion ist zu einer flügelartigen Vorwölbung verbreitert, die die Carapaxbreite in der Mitte übertrifft, meist gezahnt ist und bauchseitig eine Höhle für die Schreitbeine bildet. Die Stirn ist schmaler als die Augenhöhle und mit drei Dornen besetzt. Der obere Augenhöhlenrand hat zwei Fissuren. Die Hand der Scherenbeine hat, im Gegensatz zu Calappula, keine gerändelte Querleiste auf der Innenseite.[2]
