Calappula ist eine Gattung der Krabben mit zwei Arten.[1] Sie kommen von der tieferen Gezeitenzone (subtidal) bis zum Kontinentalhang in Tiefen zwischen 13 und 2386 m im gemäßigten Nord- und tropischen Westatlantik sowie im östlichen Indopazifik vor.[2]

Merkmale

Der Carapax von Calappula wird bis zu 38 mm lang. Die hintere Seitenregion ist flügelartig erweitert, welche die Carapaxbreite in der Mitte übertrifft, meist gezahnt ist und bauchseitig eine Höhle für die Schreitbeine bildet. Die Stirn ist schmaler als die Augenhöhle und mit drei Dornen besetzt. Die Mundhöhle hat keine mediane vordere Scheidewand. Die Hand der Scherenbeine hat eine gerändelte Querleiste auf der Innenseite, was die Gattung von Calappa unterscheidet.[2]
