NGC 4599 ist eine linsenförmige Galaxie mit aktivem Galaxienkern vom Hubble-Typ S0/a im Sternbild Jungfrau auf der Ekliptik. Sie ist schätzungsweise 78 Millionen Lichtjahre von der Milchstraße entfernt und hat einen Durchmesser von etwa 40.000 Lichtjahren.

Im selben Himmelsareal befindet sich u. a. die Galaxie NGC 4581.

Das Objekt wurde am 22. Februar 1786 vom deutsch-britischen Astronomen Wilhelm Herschel[4] mit einem 18,7-Zoll-Spiegelteleskop entdeckt, der sie „vF, vS“[5] nannte.
