NGC 5017 ist eine elliptische Galaxie vom Hubble-Typ E3 im Sternbild Jungfrau auf der Ekliptik. Sie ist schätzungsweise 109 Millionen Lichtjahre von der Milchstraße entfernt und hat einen Durchmesser von etwa 60.000 Lj.

Im selben Himmelsareal befinden sich u. a. die Galaxien NGC 5030, NGC 5031, NGC 5035, NGC 5037.

Das Objekt wurde am 7. Mai 1787 vom deutsch-britischen Astronomen Wilhelm Herschel[4] mit einem 18,7-Zoll-Spiegelteleskop entdeckt, der dabei nur „vF“[5] notierte.
