Besonders interessant ist der Fall, bei dem eine vollständige normierte *-Algebra ist, die die C*-Eigenschaft () erfüllt, eine sogenannte C*-Algebra.

- Sei eine unitäre C*-Algebra und ein normales Element. Genau dann ist unitär, wenn das Spektrum nur aus Elementen der Kreisgruppe besteht, das heißt .

- Trivialerweise ist das Einselement unitär.
- Sei eine unitäre C*-Algebra. Ist ein normales Element einer C*-Algebra , dann definiert jede auf dem Spektrum stetige Funktion , mittels stetigem Funktionalkalkül ein unitäres Element , falls .
