Robert von Trapp

Robert von Trapp (vuoteen 1868 Trapp; 7. kesäkuuta 1802 Turku – 21. maaliskuuta 1875 Helsinki)[1] oli suomalainen senaattori, valtiopäivämies ja Suomen Pankin pääjohtaja .

Henkilöhistoria

Trappin suku on alkujaan Saksasta ja tuli Tallinnan kautta Suomeen isonvihan jälkeen.[2] Trappin isä, turkulainen kauppias Kristian Trapp toimi Porvoon valtiopäivillä 1809 porvarissäädyn puhemiehenä ja palkittiin kauppaneuvoksen arvolla. Hänen äitinsä oli Anna Sofia Lundgren.[3] Trapp kirjoitti ylioppilaaksi Turusta 1818 ja pääsi auskultantiksi Turun hovioikeuteen suoritettuaan kaksi vuotta myöhemmin tuomarintutkinnon. 1826 hän sai varatuomarin arvon ja viran senaatin kopistina. Hän toimi 1834–1838 senaatin kansliatoimituskunnan kanslistina ja Helsingfors Tidningar -lehden toimittajana sekä 1838–1854 Viipurin lääninkamreerina. 1854 Trapp nimitettiin Suomen Pankin johtokuntaan veljensä Carl Wilhelm Trappin seuraajana. Toinen veli, kauppaneuvos Kristian Trapp, toimi Suomen Pankin tilintarkastajana.[1] Hänestä tuli myös pankin johtokunnan vt. puheenjohtaja kahdeksi vuodeksi.[4] Senaatin talousosaston varapuheenjohtaja Lars Gabriel von Haartman järjesti Trappille 1856 nimityksen senaattoriksi, ensin oikeusosastolle ja sitten seuraavana vuonna talousosastolle, vaikka useat vaikutusvaltaiset henkilöt pitivät häntä sopimattomana ja yrittivät estää hankkeen. Von Haartmanin on sanottu toivoneen Trappista seuraajaansa valtiovaraintoimituskunnan päällikkönä, mutta virkaan nimitettiin 1858 Fabian Langenskiöld. Trapp tuli huonosti toimeen Langenskiöldin ja varsinkin hänen seuraajansa J. V. Snellmanin kanssa.[1]

Trapp toimi 1859–1862 senaatin sotilastoimituskunnan ja 1862–1865 kamaritoimituskunnan päällikkönä. Hän palasi vuosiksi 1865–1867 takaisin oikeusosastoon ja sitten uudelleen talousosastoon kamaritoimituskunnan johtoon. 1868 hänestä tuli viimein valtiovaraintoimituskunnan päällikkö, missä tehtävässä hän toimi vuoteen 1871, jolloin sai omasta pyynnöstään eron. Trapp aateloitiin 1868 nimellä von Trapp ja hän sai salaneuvoksen arvonimen. Hän edusti aatelissäädyssä sukuaan valtiopäivillä 1872.[1]

Trapp toimi 1833–1838 Yleisen paloapuyhtiön johtokunnan sihteerinä ja vuodesta 1858 Kaupunkien yleisen paloapuyhtiön johtokunnan puheenjohtajana. Hän kuului 1857–1861 Tie- ja vesikulkulaitosten johtokuntaan sekä Helsinki–Hämeenlinna-radan johtokuntaan ja hänet nimitettiin 1872 Hanko–Hyvinkää-radan johtokunnan puheenjohtajaksi.[1]

Trapp kirjoitti teoksen Den unge juristen eller juridisk handbok för medborgare (1833), josta otettiin useita uusintapainoksia ja joka suomennettiin 1847.[1]

Trappin puoliso vuodesta 1827 oli Christina Charlotta Wilhelmina Råbergh (k. 1856).[3] Trappilta ei jäänyt miespuolista perillistä,[1] joten von Trapp -aatelissuku sammui mieslinjalta hänen kuollessaan ja lopullisesti vuonna 1906.[2] Perheen vanhin tytär meni naimisiin senaattori John Snellmanin kanssa.[1]
