AnduinOSはマイクロソフトのエンジニアであったAnduin Xueによって開発、保守されている[3][1][4]WindowsライクなUbuntuベースのLinuxディストリビューション[5][6][7]。Ubuntu由来の安定性と使いやすさ、優れたハードウェアサポートを備え日常用途での使用も可能とされるが、開発者はAnduinOSをWindowsからの移行を想定している開発者向けのディストリビューションとして宣伝している[5]。

特徴

AnduinOSの大きな特徴の1つとしてデスクトップ環境にGNOMEを採用して、Windowsに非常によく似たUIを構築していることが挙げられる[8][9]。これはWindowsから移行するユーザーにとって使いやすさを維持するためである[10]。AnduinOSでは、Windowsのデスクトップアイコンやアニメーションまでもが再現されており、ユーザーにとって視覚的にわかりやすく、Windowsからの移行に配慮された形となっている[11][12]。そして、これらの機能は多数のGNOMEの拡張機能を組み合わせることで実現されている[8]。

2025年現在、AnduinOSはAnduin Xueの個人プロジェクトとして開発されている[1][13]。Anduinはプロジェクトを商業化させるつもりはなく、また経済的に安定しているため寄付を受け付けるつもりもないとしている。

疑惑

開発者のAnduin Xueは中国出身のため[7][13]、一部からはAnduinOSには中国政府によるバックドアが仕込まれているのではないかとの疑惑が出た。これに対して開発者であるAnduinは、AnduinOSはオープンソースであり、バックドアを仕込むのは不可能であるとし、中国政府のためにバックドアを仕込むのは不合理であり簡単に暴露されると主張している。

システム要件

公式サイトによると、AnduinOSのシステム要件は以下の通り[14]。

  • 2GHz以上のクロック周波数を備えたx64のプロセッサー
  • 4GB以上のRAM
  • 20GB以上のストレージ
