Skyblock（スカイブロック）は、ダウンロード可能なワールドかつミニゲームであり、サンドボックスビデオゲーム『Minecraft』の1つである。元のワールドは空中に浮かぶ小さな島で構成され、限られた資源でプレイヤーは生き延びなければならない[1][2][3]。元々はNoobcrewというユーザーによって作成され[4][5]、2011年9月4日にMinecraftフォーラムに公式版を公開した[6]。

Noobcrewは浮遊島のコンセプトは発明したわけではなく「ただ自分が考える最高のバージョンを作っただけだ」と述べている[7]。

Minecraftにおける初期のユーザー生成コンテンツの一つとして、Skyblockは象徴的な存在となり、様々なMinecraftサーバーで使用されている[8][9]。また、多数のMinecraft用のMODやマップ、および他のゲームの派生作品のゲームモードにも影響を与えている[10][11][12]。

ゲーム内容

元のSkyblockでは、プレイヤーは空中に浮かぶ小さなL字型の草地の島にスポーンし、その島にはオークの木が1本と独りのチェストが置かれている。チェストは限られた資材を収めており、これらを戦略的に使いながら生存し、島を拡張し、課題を達成し[13]、食料を入手して生き続けることが主な目的である。選択したバージョンによっては、追加の砂の島、ネザーへのアクセス、またはチェスト内の資材が異なり、それによってプレイヤーが達成できる目標が変わる場合もある。一般にSkyblockには明確な終了目標はない[14]。

歴史

『skyblock.net』によると、Skyblockおよびそのオリジナルのすべてのバージョン（バージョン1.0、1.1、2.0、および2.1）は累計で1230万回以上ダウンロードされている[15]。

マップのリリース以来、様々なYouTuberがマップに関する動画を制作し、その人気が大きく高まった[16]。マップ公開から29日後の2011年10月2日、早期にマップのレビューを行ったYouTuberの1人にCaptainSparklezがいる[17]。

Skyblockのバリエーションは、ゲーム内で最も人気のあるサーバーの1つであるHypixelなど、いくつかのMinecraftサーバー上で作られている[18][19]。HypixelのSkyblockは2019年6月11日にリリースされた[20]。Skyblockは独自の公式のMinecraftサーバーも持つ[9][21]。

2024年9月24日、Noobcrewは2019年から2020年以降、マイクロソフトや複数のMinecraftマーケットプレイス関連企業との法的問題に関する声明を公開した[22]。Noobcrewは、自身の許可なくMinecraftマーケットプレイス内での「Skyblock」ブランド商品化を阻止しようと試みたという。2011年から自身のプラットフォームで無料提供していたにもかかわらず、関係企業は知的財産権を無効にしようとし、一部企業は「Skyblock」や「Original Skyblock」といった名称で販売し、数十万から数百万ドルの収益を上げている。MinecraftコミュニティからNoobcrew支持の反発があったものの、2025年4月時点で問題は継続している模様である[23][24]。

適応

Skyblockに似たミニゲームは、ほかのビデオゲームでも作られており、『Terraria』[25]、『Roblox』[26][27]、および『フォートナイト』[12]などがある。

2020年7月14日、RobloxにSkyblockがミニゲームとして作られ、同プラットフォーム内で最も人気のあるゲームの一つとなり、4万人以上のプレイヤーを集めた。しかしNoobcrewによるDMCA申請により著作権問題で閉鎖された。開発者であるEasy Gamesはゲーム名を「Islands」に変更し、継続運営を許可された[28]。

2023年11月22日、ほにSkyblockがミニゲームとして作られ、2万人以上のプレイヤーを獲得した。こちらもNoobcrewによるDMCA申請で一時的に閉鎖され、開発者であるVisionCreatesFNはゲーム名を「Block Tycoon」に変更した[29]。

ユーザー制作のSkyblock風マップはTerrariaにも存在し、2023年8月にRe-Logicは公式ブログでSkyblockモードをマップのシードとして正式にゲームに追加すると発表した。リード開発者のAndrew Spinksは、コミュニティ製マップほど「ハードコアでグラインドがきつい内容にはしない」と述べている[30][31][32]。
